Allegheny Health Network’s new Wexford Hospital in Pine is trying to ease the reluctance some patients experience when seeing a physician for the first time.
Instead of finding the right doctor through trial-and-error, residents in the North Hills can meet a number of the hospital’s doctors before scheduling an appointment.
Registration is open for an event titled Meet Dr. Right, which is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at the AHN Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion, which is adjacent to AHN Wexford Hospital.
Nineteen doctors including surgical specialists in pediatrics, pediatric neuropsychology, adult/pediatric orthopaedic surgery, joint reconstruction, pulmonology, oncology and women’s care will be on site during the event.
People who attend will have the opportunity to meet, mingle and make in-office appointments with primary care doctors and specialists, according to AHN spokeswoman Candace Harrington.
AHN representatives also will be on hand to answer questions about the health care system’s programs and services, including Healthcare@Home, the Post Covid-19 Recovery Clinic, the MyChart self-scheduling system, telehealth, urgent/express care, physical therapy neighborhood hospitals and more, she said.
Meet Dr. Right events at AHN were launched in 2015 but had to pause during the coronavirus pandemic, according to hospital officials.
This will be the first Meet Dr. Right event at AHN Wexford since 2019.
Representatives from Highmark Blue Cross Blue will participate in the event to discuss benefits for members such as wellness coaching, the Blue Neighbors program and the Highmark Caring Place.
Blood pressure screenings, as well as free covid-19 shots, will be administered and people who attend can take home a free, home-based test for the detection of colon cancer.
AHN Wexford Hospital President Dr. Allan Klapper said studies indicate that many Americans overlooked their health care needs throughout the pandemic.
He said researchers last year found that more than a third of adults in the U.S. delayed or went without needed medical care due to fears of exposure to the virus and limited available services.
Klapper said Meet Dr. Right is “the perfect perfect opportunity for people to reengage in their health care.”
“Whether you need a new primary care physician for general health needs or are simply looking for guidance regarding which doctor is best suited to treat a particular health issue, this unique event intends to help patients easily find the right doctor based on their unique needs and preferences,” Klapper said.
Register online for the event, which will be held on the second floor of the Pavilion located at 12311 Perry Highway. Masks will be required to attend.
